Gecko Biomedical announces that Maria Pereira, Head of Adhesive Technologies was named on the 2014’s “35 Innovators Under 35” by MIT Technology Review

Gecko Biomedical, a French medical device company developing ‘bio-inspired’ biodegradable surgical glues and patches for wound closure, announces today that Maria Pereira, PhD, Head of Adhesive Technologies, is recognized as an honoree of MIT Technology Review’s Annual Innovators Under 35 List.

The Innovators Under 35 is an annual list published by MIT Technology Review, naming the world’s top young innovators.
The list acknowledges accomplishments that are poised to have a dramatic impact on the world, as we know it.

The honorees will be recognized at the annual EmTech MIT conference on emerging technologies, held at MIT from September 23–25, 2014.

“This honor speaks to Maria’s outstanding contribution, to innovation and changing the way we treat patients. We are highly honored and fortunate to have Maria among our team of highly talented people, helping advance Gecko Biomedical’ technology to the benefit of patients.” said Christophe Bancel, Chief Executive Officer of Gecko Biomedical.

“I am honored to be a part of the Innovators Under 35 list together with distinguished peers”, said Maria Pereira. “This honor recognizes the innovative character of our adhesive materials. These were specifically engineered to address the challenges of tissue defect closure in minimally invasive settings. We have been able to demonstrate its potential in pre-clinical models and we are now on track to bring the technology to patients”
