We are actively looking to recruit a Research Engineer (preclinical) to be part of the TISSIUM’s Innovation Hub. This person will define the research strategy and execute the activities related to the preclinical testing of TISSIUM 3D printed devices. We are looking for a Research Engineer who brings enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, scientific rigor and a desire to innovate.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support R&D efforts related to the development of 3D printed devices for different clinical indications
  • Identify, establish and validate experimentally in vitro or in vivo models to understand and evaluate the safety and performance of TISSIUM technologies
  • Design, execute (hands on) and manage pre-clinical studies (in vitro and in vivo) conducted internally or through subcontracted CROs. This includes study design, protocol development, coordination of study materials, hands on execution of the experimental work, data interpretation, report writing and reviewing.
  • Perform bibliographic reviews and work closely with clinicians to understand user requirements and integrate those inputs to design an effective pre-clinical program, as well as propose design improvements for TISSIUM 3D printed devices
  • Rigorously document activities according to TISSIUM policy

Environment & Interactions

  • Define the scope of the projects and respective planning, in collaboration with the Head of New Concepts 3D printing
  • Effectively interface with Innovation and Development teams, as well as identify and interact with key external advisors and CROs, to facilitate success of programs
  • Present studies follow up and outcomes to the Project Team and Management
  • Available to travel both nationally and internationally

Qualifications & Skills

  • Master with 2-3 years of relevant experience or PhD in Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, Biology or Biomedical Engineering
  • Experience in the design and execution of in vitro and in vivo experiments, preferably for biomaterial performance and safety evaluation
  • Hands on experience in in vitro characterization of materials or devices (cell culture with cell/material interaction, microscopy, histology)
  • Hands on experience with animal surgery or device implantation
  • Experience in peripheral nerve repair and/or cell/biomaterial interaction is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills and English proficiency (both written and oral)
